The celebration of Black History Month was recently reinstated as of January 31, 2025, by proclamation of the White House. Shockingly, the recognition of Black History Month, celebrated since 1976, was temporarily halted by the swift push of a pen by the President of the United States. This decision to cancel recognition of Black History Month was reversed.
We must take ownership of our history to ensure that our families, friends, children, and colleagues remain engaged in the discussion about the importance of Black History Month. Our culture is the definition of evolution, change, perseverance, and innovation. Black history is relevant for today and tomorrow. We will always celebrate Black History Month, even if the Federal Government does not. Let's harness the wisdom of the past to inspire the future.
